Habitat

Teak forest and open country with scattered trees

Range

Andaman Islands

The Andaman nightjar is found on most of the islands in the Andamans, and calls suggest it may also occur on Narcondam Island. It is sometimes considered a subspecies of the large-tailed nightjar, but its song and form are distinct. It is said to be common in teak forest and open country with scattered trees (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its call is a tyuk that lacks the following tremolo heard in the large-tailed nightjar and is repeated more rapidly. The cached account is short and gives no measurements, diet or breeding information. SoIB 2023 treats it as an Andaman endemic and a resident of forest and plantation that eats invertebrates, and does not assign a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
