The black-headed snake, also called Duméril's black-headed snake or Jerdon's many-toothed snake, is a non-venomous colubrid found in Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. It is active by day and at night, living in leaf litter and preying on geckos, skinks and smaller snakes. The maximum size is 46 cm (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is pale brown above with a row of small round black spots down the back and usually a more or less distinct dark line or row of dots along the side. The head and nape are dark brown or black, with yellow lips, a yellow line between the eyes and two broad yellow bands around the nape, and the underside is yellow with a black dot on each shield. It occurs through most of India, including the Western and Eastern Ghats and pockets of central India.
