The brown-throated, or plain, martin is a small swallow-family bird 12 cm long, brown above and white or pale brown below, that is widely distributed across Africa. It was formerly regarded as conspecific with the grey-throated martin and the Madagascar martin. It lacks the narrow brown breast band of the sand martin, and the bill is black and the legs brown (Wikipedia, general species account).
The nests are at the end of tunnels 30 to 60 cm long bored in sandbanks, with the nest itself a litter of straw and feathers in a chamber at the end, and two to four white eggs are incubated by both parents. The twittering song is continuous on the wing, and it is a partially migratory species. The cached account does not describe any occurrence in India and the species is not in SoIB 2023; Indian birds have been treated as the grey-throated martin, so its place on the Indian list should be checked (Wikipedia, general species account).
