The chestnut-backed laughingthrush is a bird of the family Leiothrichidae found in north-east India and northern Myanmar. It inhabits secondary growth, thickets and tall grasslands with scattered shrubs or dense bushes in stony scrub-covered ravines and hills, from the lowlands up to around 900 m, and is threatened by habitat loss. It was at one time placed in Garrulax but was moved to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus after a 2018 study (Wikipedia, general species account).
The cached account gives no description, measurements or breeding information. SoIB 2023 treats it as an Eastern Himalayan endemic and rates it a High conservation priority, a resident forest bird with a Very Restricted range of about 2,820 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
