It was discovered in 2008 by scientists from the Zoological Survey of India. It is a medium-sized frog, about 40 mm, active at night; by day it hides below small boulders and in damp leaf litter along slow-flowing streams in the shola forests of the hill ranges (Wikipedia, general species account).
The eyes are golden yellow with black rhomboidal pupils, and the upper surface is reddish black to stone black with two yellow side bands. It was found to feed mainly on flies, followed by hymenopterans and lepidopterans (Wikipedia, general species account).
