The grey-fronted green pigeon is found in the forests of the Western Ghats of India, and many authorities have split it from the pompadour green pigeon complex. The male has a reddish mantle and the female a green mantle. It usually occurs singly or in small groups, with the fast, direct flight, regular wing beats and occasional sharp flick of the wings that are typical of pigeons (Wikipedia, general species account).
It eats the seeds and fruits of a wide variety of plants. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays two white eggs. SoIB 2023 treats it as a Western Ghats endemic and resident forest bird that eats fruit and nectar, rates it a Low conservation priority, and gives a Moderate range of about 154,000 km² and a stable long-term trend of about −16% (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
