Indotyphlus maharashtraensis, the Humbarli caecilian, also called the Maharashtra caecilian or Konkan tail-less caecilian, was described in 2004 by scientists of the Bombay Natural History Society and the Natural History Museum, London. It is only the second species of Indotyphlus known and is known only from its type locality near Humbarli village, Satara District, in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra (Wikipedia, general species account).
The type series consists of 12 specimens, three males of 78-205 mm and seven females of 100-197 mm total length, with two smaller specimens that could not be reliably sexed. The eyes are visible through the skin as small dark spots, and the body is mostly brownish above, greyer or lavender towards the rear and paler on the sides and underneath (Wikipedia, general species account).
