Lycodon deccanensis
Habitat
Hilly tracts with mixed deciduous forest, 600–1,100m
Range
Southern India (Karnataka)
The Deccan wolf snake is a nocturnal, non-venomous colubrid endemic to southern India. It lives in hilly tracts of mixed deciduous forest at 600–1,100 m. It was previously mistaken for the Travancore wolf snake, but later studies showed it to be distinct (Wikipedia, general species account).
The back is coffee brown in adults but black in juveniles, with a series of white crossbar-like patterns on the back and sides of the body giving a white-mottled look. The Reptile Database lists Karnataka.
