Western Ghats of Kerala: Wayanad, Kannur and Malappuram districts

The two-lined black shield-tail snake, or iridescent shield-tail snake, is a snake endemic to India, found in Wayanad, Kannur and Malappuram districts of Kerala in the Western Ghats. It was known from only three specimens, and very little information is available on it in the wild (Wikipedia, general species account).

The eye diameter is one quarter the length of the eye shield, the belly scales are twice as broad as the adjacent scales, with 188–200 belly scales and 15–17 under-tail scales. The tail is as in the young of Beddome's black shield-tail snake.
