Minervarya pentali, Pental's Minervaryan frog, is endemic to the southern Western Ghats, where it is widespread from sea level up to 220 m. Its range runs from Kozhikode district in Kerala in the north to Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu in the south. It is smaller than other Minervarya, with males about 20 mm and females about 25 mm from snout to vent (Wikipedia, general species account).
The upper parts are greyish brown with the texture of shagreen, and the underparts are smooth and generally paler. The throat is flesh-coloured, the calling patch black, and a yellow-grey line runs down the middle of the back. Males give a pulsating call at regular intervals, averaging 19 pulses and lasting about a fifth of a second, from 6 to 10 pm. The breeding season runs from July to September (Wikipedia, general species account).
