Southern India: Tamil Nadu and Kerala
The Nilgiri day gecko is endemic to southern India. It was long known only from a single female collected in 1885 and misidentified by George Albert Boulenger as a variety of the Kandyan day gecko, which he used as a syntype for his description of that variety (Wikipedia, general species account).
No living population was reported for over 130 years, until a live male was collected in 2019, the first male specimen of the species. The Reptile Database lists Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
