Nyctibatrachus jog, Jog's night frog or the Jog wrinkled frog, is endemic to the Western Ghats and known only from the vicinity of Jog Falls on the Sharavathi River in Karnataka, at about 600 m above sea level. It grows to 32-39 mm and is one of 34 species of nocturnal frogs in its genus. The back is black with grey markings, the limbs grey with dark bands, the throat reddish brown and the belly pale grey. The male has reddish-brown femoral glands on the hind legs and a vocal sac that inflates sideways (Wikipedia, general species account).
Breeding takes place in the monsoon. The male calls to attract a female, chooses a spot for the eggs on a branch, leaf or steep rock about a metre above a stream, and then stands over the eggs. The tadpoles undergo metamorphosis in about 32 days (Wikipedia, general species account).
