Ognev's serotine is a vesper bat described in 1918 by Nikolay Alekseyevich Bobrinski. It was long treated as the same species as Botta's serotine, but a 2013 study of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA supported the two as distinct species (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its range runs from the Caucasus and Central Asia into northern South Asia, from Georgia east to Kazakhstan and south to Kashmir, and it includes the northernmost parts of India and Pakistan. It prefers arid and semi-arid habitats, steppe and rocky mountains, and roosts in crevices such as natural rock crevices, buildings and ruins, including tombs (Wikipedia, general species account).
