The robin accentor is a large accentor, about 17 cm long, a brown bird with a grey head and an orange-red breast. The head and neck are grey while the other upperparts are brown, streaked with black, the throat is a uniform reddish-orange, the belly pale buff and the wing coverts white-tipped. The sexes are similar and have the slender, sharply pointed bill typical of an insect eater. It is found in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan and China, typically at 3,000–5,500 m (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a non-migratory species normally resident above the tree line but not as high as the snow line, and small groups of birds may feed together. The cup-shaped nest holds about four blue or green unspeckled eggs. The call is a high trill or a repeated tszi tszi, and the song is musical, rendered as si-tsi-si-tsi-tsu-tsitsi. SoIB 2023 rates it a Low conservation priority, a resident and altitudinal migrant omnivore of alpine and cold desert with a Moderate range of about 62,800 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
