The northern Sahyadri keelback is a keelback endemic to the northern Western Ghats of India. It is mainly brown to dark grey with random black and white markings that become less distinct towards the rear. The underside shifts from white in front to cream and yellow towards the rear, and some individuals have a light bar on the back of the head and a downward post-eye stripe that is white or lighter with black edges (Wikipedia, general species account).
It appears to be common and widespread in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Specimens were seen actively moving by day in a dried streambed. It appears to be largely active by day and has been observed feeding on Indirana frogs and the eggs of Nyctibatrachus frogs.
