Basic stats

Habitat

High-altitude grassy hills, 1,700–2,300m

Range

Southern Western Ghats: Anaimalai Hills and Meghamalai, Kerala and Tamil Nadu

The Anaimalai spiny lizard is an agamid lizard endemic to the southern Western Ghats, found in the Anaimalai Hills (its type locality) and Meghamalai, in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It lives at relatively high altitudes, 1,700–2,300 m. The long, pointed snout is about twice as long as the diameter of the eye, and the scales on top of the head are large (Wikipedia, general species account).

A row of three or four large scales runs from the eye to above the ear opening, and a curved series of large scales borders the region above the eye. The Reptile Database also lists Munnar and the Palni Hills. The account used here gives little on diet or breeding.
