Western Ghats of Maharashtra; type locality Chalkewadi

The Satara gecko is endemic to the Western Ghats of India and was described in 2008 from Chalkewadi in Maharashtra. It is mostly found under boulders on lateritic rock outcrops, a habitat marked by extreme climate during the monsoon and summer, in a landscape dominated by windmills and tourism activity. It can be distinguished by its large size and a set of scale patterns and colours (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is estimated to breed more than once a year, and many of its features and behaviours resemble those of its sister species, the white-striped viper gecko.
