The white-browed fantail is a small bird about 18cm long, with dark brown upperparts spotted white on the wings, whitish underparts and a fan-shaped tail edged in white. Long white eyebrows meet on the forehead, and the throat and eye mask are blackish, bordering whitish moustache stripes (Wikipedia, general species account).

It breeds across the tropical Indian subcontinent and South-east Asia, from eastern Pakistan to southern Indochina, in forest and other woodland. It is insectivorous and often fans its tail as it moves through the undergrowth. It lays three eggs in a small cup nest in a tree. SoIB 2023 lists it as resident in India with some altitudinal movement and a large range, estimates a long-term decline of about 41%, and rates it a Moderate conservation priority (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
