The Bengal bush lark is a small lark about 15 cm long with a strong, stout bill. It is dark-streaked grey above and buff below, with spotting on the breast and behind the eye and rufous wings. It is monotypic (Wikipedia, general species account).
It lives in dry, open, stony country with sparse shrubs and in cultivated land, and stays in the same area through the year. Its range covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal, and records include West Bengal. It feeds mainly on seeds and insects, especially insects in the breeding season, and nests on the ground with clutches of three or four speckled eggs. Like the Indian bush lark it was moved in 2023 from Mirafra to the new genus Plocealauda (Wikipedia, general species account).
