Habitat
Wetland
Range
South Asia
The brown crake, or brown bush-hen, is a waterbird in the rail and crake family found in South Asia. The origin of the species name akool is uncertain: it may come from Hindu mythology, or from the Sinhalese word kukkula, which is used for both moorhen and watercock (Wikipedia, general species account).
The cached account is very short and gives no description, measurements or breeding information. SoIB 2023 treats it as a resident wetland omnivore, rates it a Low conservation priority, and gives a Large range of about 419,000 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
