Dussumier's water snake, or the Kerala mud snake, is the only species in its genus and a mildly venomous, rear-fanged snake of the family Homalopsidae. It is endemic to the coastal plains of Kerala in south-western India. It was formerly thought to occur in Bangladesh, though that is now disputed (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is thoroughly aquatic and more evident during the rains. It feeds mostly on fishes and takes refuge in crab holes on mud banks and other safe retreats near water bodies.
