Habitat

Lowland northern Kerala

Range

Lowlands of northern Kerala, India (type locality)

Gegeneophis tejaswini is an indotyphlid caecilian described in 2015 by Kotharambath, Wilkinson, Oommen and Gower from eight specimens from the lowlands of the most northerly district of Kerala in the southern Western Ghats. (web summaries of the original description).

It is distinguished from other Gegeneophis by annulation characters and genetics, being more than 6% different from the most similar named species in 883 base pairs of 12S and 16S rRNA sequence. It is very similar to G. krishni and G. mhadeiensis, which shows that larger samples or new characters are needed in this genus. (web summaries of the original description).
