The Indian hog deer is a small deer of the Indian subcontinent and the Indo-Gangetic plain. The coat is thick and generally a uniform dark brown in winter, with lighter underparts and legs, and the ears are rounded. In late spring it starts to moult to a rich reddish-brown summer coat. Many animals show a dark stripe down the back of the neck and along the spine, and in summer a row of light spots usually runs along each side of it (Wikipedia, general species account).

It occurs in the Indus valley in Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, southern Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and China's Yunnan Province. Its name comes from the way it runs through forest with its head held low, to duck under obstacles instead of leaping over them as most deer do. Tigers, leopards and clouded leopards are known predators. The cached account gives no measurements or breeding information (Wikipedia, general species account).
