India and Myanmar; extirpated in Nepal

The Indian flying frog, Pterorana khare, is the only species in its genus and is listed on this site as Hylarana khare. It is found in India and Myanmar, but has been lost from Nepal. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland and montane forest, and rivers. It was discovered by M. Khare and Kiyasetuo in 1986 (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its main feature is the skin flaps hanging down on both sides of its body. When it jumps it stretches this skin, so that it can float in the air a little longer, which gives it the name flying frog (Wikipedia, general species account).
