Range

Southern mainland Myanmar (Ayeyarwady, Bago, Rakhine) and Mizoram, India

Ichthyophis multicolor is a caecilian first described from the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar, and the general account gives it as endemic to Myanmar. A 2021 paper extended its range to India: it was found in Mizoram at the Aizawl municipal areas, Tamdil National Wetland in Saitual district and Dampa Tiger Reserve in Mamit district, identified by both form and 16S rRNA gene sequence data, more than 800 km from the type locality (published India record; Wikipedia, general species account).

A unique feature is that it is the only Ichthyophis besides I. tricolor with a pale vent and an adjacent darker stripe running lengthwise down the sides of the vent (Wikipedia, general species account).
