The Indian burrowing frog (Sphaerotheca breviceps) is found in South Asia, in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. In India it lives in the drier regions from the Punjab and Sind to the south, and in the Himalaya up to about 7,000 feet. It is found in leaf litter, under rocks, in crevices, or in the open in arid areas (Wikipedia, general species account).
The head is short with a rounded snout and a swollen occiput. On average it measures 2.5 inches from snout to vent, and is pink-brown with dark brown spots above and grey-white with brown dots below. The structure of its hind limbs lets it burrow into the ground for about 1.5 feet. The tadpoles are 34-36 mm long including the tail (Wikipedia, general species account).
