The scaly-bellied woodpecker is a large green woodpecker with distinct scaling from breast to vent. The crown is red in the male and blackish in the female (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is found in the Indian subcontinent and adjoining regions, across Afghanistan, Iran, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Turkmenistan, in boreal and temperate forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. The cached account gives no measurements, diet or breeding information. SoIB 2023 treats it as a Himalayan endemic and rates it a Low conservation priority, a resident and altitudinal migrant of forest and plantation with a Moderate range and a stable current trend (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
