The white-browed piculet is a small piculet up to 10 cm long, with olive-green upperparts tinged with chestnut, cinnamon or rufous underparts, sometimes yellowish on the flanks, and a stubby blackish tail. The crown is green with a white streak above and behind the eye, which is ringed by bare pinkish or reddish skin. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam, at altitudes up to about 2,600 m. It forages in the understorey not far above the ground, pecking and probing with its sharp beak for small insects, bark beetles, ants, termites, spiders and other invertebrates, often in pairs or in small mixed-species flocks, sometimes descending to hop on the ground. It uses pieces of bamboo to make its nest. SoIB 2023 rates it a Low conservation priority, a resident forest bird with a Moderate range of about 83,800 km² (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
