The scaly gecko is a nocturnal, ground-living, insect-eating gecko of South India and northern Sri Lanka. It was first discovered in the coastal sand dunes of Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, and was later misidentified until recent descriptions and molecular data allowed a proper identification. Adults are relatively short and stout, with a convex forehead, a blunt rounded snout, short limbs and a cylindrical tail that tapers to the tip (Wikipedia, general species account).

The head and neck are covered with small, rounded, overlapping granular scales. It occurs in Tamil Nadu in South India and in north-western parts of Sri Lanka.
