The silver-breasted broadbill is a broadbill found in parts of Southeast Asia. Seven subspecies are currently recognised, and the grey-lored broadbill was also previously treated as one. The plumage of the nominate race has a rusty-coloured head with an ash-grey forehead and a broad black supercilium over the eye. Young birds resemble adults but with shorter wings and tails and slightly darker plumage overall (Wikipedia, general species account).
It occurs at 800–2,000 m in Sumatra but 300–700 m in China, and eats invertebrates, primarily insects such as grasshoppers, mantises, caterpillars and larvae, and small land snails. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, a resident forest bird with a Restricted range of about 23,500 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
