The taiga bean goose breeds in northern Europe and Asia and is migratory, wintering farther south in Europe and Asia. The bill is black at the base and tip with an orange band across the middle, and the legs and feet are bright orange. The upper wing coverts are dark brown, as in the white-fronted geese, but with narrow white fringes to the feathers. Length ranges from 68 to 90 cm, wingspan 140–174 cm and weight 1.7–4 kg (Wikipedia, general species account).
It diverged from the tundra bean goose about 2.5 million years ago, and the two made secondary contact about 60,000 years ago, resulting in extensive gene flow. The cached account gives no detail specific to India. SoIB 2023 lists it as a winter migrant of wetlands that eats plants and seeds, and does not assign a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
