The Ceylon earth snake, also called Cuvier's shieldtail or the Kerala shieldtail, is a non-venomous shieldtail snake endemic to the Western Ghats of South India. It is a burrowing snake with a pointed head suited to pushing through soil, and a thick tail that looks as if it has been cut off at an angle. The snout is rounded, and adults may reach 45 cm in total length (Wikipedia, general species account).

It primarily eats earthworms. In Kerala it is called iru thala moori, meaning two-headed organism, because the tail end looks like another head. Several synonyms, many recently resurrected, mean this species complex needs further taxonomic study.
