Dicrurus caerulescens
Diet
Insects
Habitat
Dry scrub and open forest
Range
Peninsular India and Sri Lanka
The white-bellied drongo is a drongo that is black without gloss above, greyish on the throat and breast, and white on the belly and vent in the Indian form; Sri Lankan forms are darker, with white only on the vent. Its tail fork is shallower than the black drongo's. Birds under a year old lack the white below and are browner above and greyish below, and may be mistaken for the smaller, more compact black drongo. Northern birds are larger, and the extent of white decreases with size (Wikipedia, general species account).
Like other drongos it is insectivorous. It is usually found in dry scrub and open forest and is a resident breeder of the Indian subcontinent. Three subspecies are recognised. SoIB 2023 treats it as endemic to the Indian subcontinent and resident with a large range, estimates a long-term decline of about 37%, and rates it a Moderate conservation priority (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
