The yellow-footed green pigeon is about 33cm long, and its bright yellow or yellow-orange legs and feet are its most striking feature. Adults have a bluish-grey crown and nape, a yellowish-green forehead and throat, a broad yellow collar, pale greyish-green upperparts and a mauve shoulder patch. The wings are dark with yellow edges, the tail yellow-green at the base and grey at the end, and the undertail purple to cinnamon-rufous. The male is somewhat brighter than the female. It is the state bird of Maharashtra (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is an arboreal fruit-eater that forages in flocks, especially in fig trees, rarely comes to the ground, and in the early morning often suns itself on the crowns of tall trees. It uses tropical and subtropical deciduous and semi-evergreen forest and forest edge, and has adapted well to wooded farmland, orchards, village groves, gardens and urban parks wherever fruiting trees remain. In India it is resident across a very large range; SoIB 2023 estimates a long-term increase of about 160% and rates it a Low conservation priority (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
