The yellow-throated bulbul is endemic to southern peninsular India, in rocky, scrub-covered hills mostly in the Eastern Ghats and central peninsular India but also some places in the Western Ghats, including the Anamalais. It is confusable only with the white-browed bulbul, with which its range overlaps, but is distinctively yellow on the head and throat as well as the vent. This uncrested bulbul is olive-grey above with a yellow throat, undertail coverts and tail tips, a plain head and a grey wash on the breast and belly (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is usually shy and hidden within scrub and is detected by sudden cackling outbursts of calls similar to the white-browed bulbul's. The breeding season is June to August, in a nest in the fork of a small tree, with two eggs that hatch in 20 days and chicks that fledge 13 days later. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, an omnivore of forest confined to the Southern Deccan Plateau with a Moderate range of about 80,200 km² and insufficient data on the long-term trend (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
