Basic stats

Range

About 5 km west of Kohima town, Nagaland, India (only known site)

Amolops nidorbellus was described in 2010 by Biju, Mahony and Kamei, together with the Kohima spiny torrent frog, from a forest fragment about 5 km west of Kohima in Nagaland. The authors called it the most spectacularly coloured species in the genus and placed it in a group with A. caelumnoctis, A. splendissimus, A. kaulbacki and A. viridimaculatus. (summary of the original Zootaxa description).

It is known only from the type locality, a small patch of forest that was being destroyed by quarrying, so the authors warned it may already be threatened. (summary of the original Zootaxa description).
