The Asian stubtail is a small, short-tailed bird of the family Cettiidae. Males, females and juveniles after fledging are similar, brown all over with paler underparts and a darker brown crest and eyeline. It breeds in north-east Asia and Japan in temperate forest, and non-breeding areas include Hainan, Taiwan, south-eastern China and Indochina, in undergrowth of evergreen broadleaf or lowland coniferous forest (Wikipedia, general species account).

Breeding males give a high-pitched shee-shee-shee-shee or cee-cee-cee, and both sexes have a call like chott-chott-chott. The cached account does not describe its Indian range. SoIB 2023 lists it as a winter migrant forest bird that eats invertebrates, without a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
