The firethroat, also known as David's rubythroat or Père David's orangethroat, is a passerine of the family Muscicapidae found in western and central parts of China. It breeds in Sichuan and winters primarily in the Indian subcontinent, its wintering range spanning Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Tibet and Myanmar (Wikipedia, general species account).
It was later placed in the genus Luscinia, but a molecular phylogenetic study published in 2010 found Luscinia was not monophyletic and it was split, with several species including the firethroat moved to the reinstated genus Calliope, named for the muse of beautiful voice. The cached account gives no description, measurements, diet or breeding information. SoIB 2023 lists it as a passage migrant of non-specialised habitat that eats invertebrates, without a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
