The impressed tortoise has a golden brown to dark brown shell, and its skin is usually paler yellow, sometimes with a pinkish nose. Adults are much smaller than the related Asian forest tortoise, with a maximum carapace length of 35 cm. It lives in mountainous forest at up to 2,000 m (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its behaviour is little known because of the small known population. Its diet in the wild has been observed to consist primarily of mushrooms, feeding mainly in the wet season from May to July. Females build large nests during the breeding season, and lay 10–20 eggs in one clutch between June and July, which can hatch in 65–80 days at optimal temperatures. In India the Reptile Database lists Arunachal Pradesh.
