Basic stats

Range

India and Sri Lanka

Size

19–20cm

The Indian blackbird is a thrush found only in India and Sri Lanka, formerly treated as a subspecies of the common blackbird. The subspecies found across most of the Indian subcontinent are small, only 19–20cm long, with broad eye-rings, and they also differ from the common blackbird in proportions, wing shape, egg colour and voice (Wikipedia, general species account).

The cached species account gives little further detail on its plumage or behaviour. SoIB 2023 treats it as endemic to the Indian subcontinent and resident in India with movements within the country and a moderate range, finds its current trend stable, and rates it a Low conservation priority (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
