The pale-headed woodpecker is a bamboo specialist and a montane bird found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest and moist lowland forest. A molecular study in 2017 found it embedded within the genus Dinopium, as a sister species to the olive-backed woodpecker (Wikipedia, general species account).
The cached account is short and gives no description, measurements, diet or breeding information. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, a resident forest bird that eats invertebrates, with a Restricted range of about 24,100 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
