Forest

Endemic to China's Hengduan Mountains region in a 2003 study, but also in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, India
Size
About 12cm
The Yunnan nuthatch is a small nuthatch about 12 cm long, its grey-blue upperparts contrasting with light, smooth, buffy lowerparts, with a fine white eyebrow above a black eyestripe. A 2003 study identified it as endemic to China, with the Hengduan Mountains as the main area of endemism, but it also occurs in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh in India (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its ecology is not well known, but it feeds on insects found on pine branches. Fledged young are duller than the adult with a shorter bill with a pale base, and it gives a harsh schri-schri-schri or szi-szi-szi call. SoIB 2023 lists it as a resident forest bird that eats invertebrates, without a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
