The ashy-headed green pigeon is found from Nepal, north-east India and Bangladesh to south-west China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, and many authorities have split it from the pompadour green pigeon complex. It usually occurs singly or in small groups, with the fast, direct flight and occasional sharp wing flick of pigeons in general (Wikipedia, general species account).
It eats the seeds and fruits of a wide variety of plants, builds a stick nest in a tree and lays two white eggs. SoIB 2023 treats it as a resident forest bird that eats fruit and nectar, rates it a Moderate conservation priority, and gives a Moderate range of about 68,000 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
