Endemic to the Nicobar Islands

The Nicobar imperial pigeon is endemic to the Nicobar Islands. Its natural habitat is lowland forest, but it also feeds on fruiting trees in agricultural landscapes. It was formerly treated as a subspecies of the green imperial pigeon and is now considered a separate species because of large differences in plumage and voice from all other green imperial pigeon subspecies (Wikipedia, general species account).

The cached account is short and gives no measurements or breeding information. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, with a Restricted range of only about 1,700 km² and insufficient data on trends (SoIB 2023).
