Basic stats

Diet

Habitat

Temperate forest and subtropical or tropical dry forest

Range

Nepal, China and far northern Myanmar

The vinaceous rosefinch is a medium-sized finch found in Nepal, China and far northern Myanmar, in temperate forest and subtropical or tropical dry forest. The male is a dark crimson with a brownish-black tail and wings, while the female is olive-brown with black spots. The Taiwan rosefinch is often considered a subspecies (Wikipedia, general species account).

It feeds mainly on small worms and seeds and will sometimes pick through trash piles to find food, hence the nickname Garbage Bird. The cached account does not describe an Indian range. SoIB 2023 lists it as a winter migrant of non-specialised habitat that eats plants and seeds, without a priority category, so its Indian occurrence should be checked (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
